Get Outz Escape Systems has designed and patented, (9939148) a simple, low cost, emergency lighting device. It is mounted on an acrylic plaque and designed to hang on any doorknob or OSHA mandated commercial door lever. The plaque features a motion sensor and LED light array mounted on the base. It activates for approximately 30 seconds or remains on if you chose to carry it. In a blackout or low light situation the plague serves as a handhold to perform as an emergency exit flashlight.

If your house is filled with smoke can your child or you quickly find their way out? Thousands of people die in house fires every year, a significant number, (35%) are children. We seldom hear about these tragedies beyond a local level unless a significant number of people die in one event. Fire safety, despite the efforts of local firefighters is sadly, more often than not, a politically correct slogan. Politicians react to the size of a tragedy before they respond with new safety legislation. First responders risk their personal safety every day to enter homes and rescue people that lacked the ability to exit their home quickly. The majority of people die from inhalation of smoke, not fire itself. GetOutz, in conjuncture with your smoke alarm, will save time and has been proven to save a life.

  • Is an outstanding tool as fire safety device to keep kids safe.
  • Will provide everyone with lighting to quickly escape a home or commercial building.
  • An excellent item to include in your vacation luggage to use in your hotel room.
  • At a hotel it will provide your guests with an extra measure of room safety.
  • A great open house item for a Fire Department to pass out as an additional safety tool to work in concert with a smoke detector.

It illuminates an area of about 144 square feet. Of additional benefit, the plague operates as a night light or flashlight for a person to navigate their way in the bedroom or bathroom. The USFA and FEMA report that you have 60 seconds to escape a building that has over 30,000 parts per million of smoke particles. In these situations, where smoke and dust hamper vision, there no provisions for emergency lighting in a private room or hallway. Code required commercial emergency lighting is not portable, is placed on a ceiling (where smoke rises) often obscuring it.

GetOutz, in conjuncture with your smoke alarm, introduces a significant advantage to the fire safety status quo, it provides portable but effective lighting to your families or company escape plan it will save time and has been proven to save a life.

Our product relies on a focused beam of energy traveling between an emitter and a sensor unit. When someone moves between the emitter and sensor, it interrupts the beam and triggers a motion detector light. Our passive sensor utilizes ambient light to detect movement, only triggering when you pass near enough to the sensor to reduce the amount of light available.  The motion system has a “PID”, or “passive infrared detector” which automatically-activates the lighting system.

Home Use

Your home may have smoke detectors and an evacuation plan ready, but any plan will be compromised by darkness or smoke. Do you get up in the middle of the night to assist your children with water, or to the bathroom? Improving your family safety in a fire or emergency requires an understanding of emergency conditions. In addition to the challenges presented in smoke or darkness, the pressure of a crisis situation makes it harder to think, much less see clearly. These factors make our visually instructive exit system, working in conjuncture with your smoke detectors, valuable to occupants of your home. Getoutz is a low priced, quality constructed device that will improve your family safety. It is always there on your bedroom door. The home version is 3.5 inches wide by 6” high. It comes ready to use with 3 AAA batteries and instructions.

Commercial Use

Look up the next time you are in an older building, the one you currently occupy or facilities you are responsible for. Do you see any ceiling mounted sprinklers? Current emergency lighting for hotels, public and private buildings is required by code to provide sprinklers and emergency illumination. Often the only emergency lighting is placed on a designated fire exit sign. Code designated emergency lighting is not portable. When it is placed on a ceiling (where smoke rises) obscuring it.

Commercial metal and solid core wood doors, (interior rooms adjacent to hallways, etc.) lack individual emergency lighting and present time-consuming egress situations in any emergency. You only have 57 seconds to escape in an over 30,000 parts per million in a smoke related emergency. In these situations, where smoke and dust hamper vision there are few, if any, provisions for emergency lighting in a private room or hallway where a person may need it the most. The critical proviso to code is “grandfathering” which allows many buildings to skirt emergency lighting and sprinkler provisions. This is often the case in older or historic structures.

As the manager responsible for the safety of a guests, fellow employee’s, or student’s, Getoutz will improve their safety. In darkness, a person cannot read the exit map on the hotel room door or exit maps in any unfamiliar conference room. Fire Drills, while important, are only performed in ideal test situations, in well lighted schools or office buildings. Our light as previously noted, is simple to maintain and hangs on your OSHA required commercial door levers.

It will provide reliable, emergency lighting to assist your guests, students or employees towards an emergency exit. The larger size (3.5” x 8”) commercial plague features an area above the motion detector light to place your company, government body, or fire department logo on it. (See Photos) For hotel use, it features an area below the light to warn guests of the price of the plaque should it be taken from the room. The plaques will be delivered direct to your city desk, lobby or reception by priority mail. This will reduce distribution costs and multiple “fingertip” damage. We use the USPS published flat rate cost and you will never be charged murky “shipping and handling” charges.

Actual Occurrence

During the recent Christmas holiday we gave twenty exit plaque prototypes to the staff of a clinic in West St. Paul, MN. 3 were given to Erica, who does accounts payable. She is a single mother with three children. When I went there in late March a receptionist said that the plague had saved one of Erica’s daughter’s lives about a month ago. Erica was not at the clinic that day.

I came back the next day and discussed what had happened with Erica in person. She said her daughter Ahlani (13) had used it to get out of the house last winter. While getting ready to go to work Erica tipped over a candle in the upstairs bathroom and did not realize it, then went to work. Her two other children had already left for school. The upstairs began to smoke (it had ignited a towel on the top of the toilet and the smell of smoke woke Ahlani. She said, Ahlani used the exit plaque to get out of the house, just as it was intended to do.
